70 % of the last 92 days in hospital!

yesterday i figured it out! we've spent 70% of the last 92 days in hospital. let me tell you ---needless to say I'm a little sick of hospitals!

Since the last time i updated this page a few days ago...Cas went from Good to worse. On Thursday dec 3 the cardiologist informed me that overnight his breathing had become rapid again and she was going to admit him to the PICU and put him on a CPAP machine. He did not like the first mask very much and cried the WHOLE afternoon until they put a different mask on him. He settled right down and was able to get some rest.

Yesterday he developed a fever. They are not sure if its from dehydration from all the drugs they are giving him to get the fluid off his lungs or if he's getting sick again. If he is getting sick again this is not good. It means he will not be able to have his surgery, he has to clear any infections for a period of time before they can do surgery. he also spent yesterday afternoon very restless and would not settle. They ended up giving him a sedative ( double dose ) so he could sleep.

On tuesday the Cardiologist will once again present him to the Surgeons in Edmonton and his surgery may be moved up once again. Yeah for Christmas in the Hospital.

I didn't realize how hard this really is. Seeing your child hooked up to machines and getting tons of drugs is not easy. And you can imagine how hard it is, but one doesn't really know until they are actually going through it.

I understand why some persons in the medical field bring up the subject of termination when a pregnancy is diagnosed with health complications. All they see is the tears and struggles we parents go through. I wish they could see the good things.

  1. Oh, Arlene. I'm so sorry Cas is spending so much time inpatient. I didn't know about all of these issues when I sent you a msg on BBC the other day. Don't even think about the gift exchange. But I'd love to send some fun things for Cas. Micah spent 8 weeks in the NICU, 9 weeks at home, then 3 weeks inpatient for his OHS (which was rough... should have been 7-10 days). But I learned a lot while we were there and I'd love to send Cas some fun things.
Please drop me a note on BBC with your address (or the address at the hospital if that works better). With Cas spending so much time on his back hooked up to all that junk, he needs some fun things to look at. Make sure the nurses put a mobile up on his crib.
    Blessings,
    JenMSU (Micah's mom)
