We had a busy day at the ACH today!
First we started with Audiology and a hearing test. Castian sat on a table with some toys and there were speakers on both sides of him with toys that became animated. The audiologist would play sound from either speaker and see how he reacted. When the left side was turned on he would stop and look at the toys. The right side he was less responsive. I don't even know if he was hearing the sounds or if it was the lights that he was looking at. She decided in the end that he was maybe a little too young for this test, and told us that she would do the baby test after his appointment with Dr. Brooks- ENT.
So off to the next appointment- ENT. He looked in his ears and found dried wax--yuck! after 10 min of Castian screaming from getting his ears cleaned, We were told that Catian has fluid in his ears and that we should get him tubes. So at the beginning of Feb Castian will be going under once again for Ear tubes. He never did get that baby hearing test..... they didn't see the point. He has fluid in his ears, it wouldn't give them the results they want.
Next appointment was PREP! YAY! Castian gets to go to SCHOOL starting January 17! OK it's not really school but it's pretty close- He gets to go play, do arts and crafts and have gym time. And seeing as Barb is a ST, she also gave me some tips for Kayla and her speech delay!!!! lol.
After a stop at Mcdonalds for lunch we were back at the hospital. Castian was finally able to stop wearing his fancy helmet about a month ago and we had yet to do a discharge scan! So one last stop seeing the folks down in the rehab services and our stint with head shape was done!!! The picture is .... Red line was his Scan when he started and the blue line is today. Although his head shape is not "Perfect" it is a improvement. I don't think many people will notice anyway once he gets hair! and the Tech said that it may fix itself with time. I'm just happy that there is no more helmet.
So our journey continues..... finish one .... but another starts :-)

I somehow came across your blog. I have a FB friend with identical twin boys with DS and I think she posted your site. I just finished watching Castian's first year of life video and I must tell you that I am absolutely taken with his joyous, bubbling, super smile!! He is such a happy baby which means, to me, that he has a great family! I agree with you, BTW, that God helps each of these children choose the right parents! You are proof of that, as is my FB friend. Most of my working career was with children and adults with a variety of disabilities. I was a school teacher, a home living support/parent and also worked for a bit in a job training program. Working with adults in both group homes and in their own apartments was my favorite work. I think I was able to provide much more support there. I am so pleased with the advances that have been made, especially with children with DS, to increase their abilities to learn so many things we "old timers" never thought could occur. Of course, back in the day, only children who were potty trained were allowed into a school program - what arrogance we, as teachers had. And there were no infant or preschool programs to begin early learning and stimulation. And of course, that is what leads to far more skilled youngsters with DS than we ever saw or even imagined. God Bless you for allowing Castian to enter your lives. You are by far, the better for it, as his he! And thank you for sharing his life with me. I am blessed by seeing him!
